I formed this band three years ago, simply for the thrill of playing some great charts. Artistically, I wanted the band to be musically ‘eclectic’. It’s not unusual to have a contemporary arrangement, funk, latin, fusion and swing chart in the same set. I am so grateful and fortunate to be able to draw on some of the best musicians in South Wales that are willing to come along once a month and play just for the enjoyment of making music. Composers such as Kenny Wheeler, Pat Metheny, Stan Sulzmann, Tito Puente, Henri Mancini, Steve Allee, Bob Mintzer and many others are regularly featured.

It took a bit of planning to get the right people in the right place, but it was worth it. Here, The Collective’ are joined by three additional musicians in order to perform some contemporary charts for jazz orchestra . A big thank you goes to Liz Harwood (Cor Anglaise) Meg Davies (Clarinet) and Emily Darlington (Alto Flute, Flute and Picc) for their awesome musicianship and contribution to some of our newer rep. ‘HOME AT LAST’ – STEELY DAN
The Collective perform a classic Steely Dan chart ‘Home at last” as part of their entry for a local music competition. Fab tenor solo from John Farrow. A big thank you to the S4C crew and staff for making this session so easy and such fun.
